Lower Manair Dam also known as LMD was constructed across the Manair River, at Alugunur village, Thimmapur mandal, Karimnagar District, in the Indian state of Telangana during 1974 to 1985. It provides irrigation to a gross command area of 163,000 hectares. The construction of the Lower Manair Dam started in the year 1974 and was completed in 1985. The dam is the first sight of Karimnagar which welcomes the many visitors on their way from the state capital. It is affectionately called the water gateway into the district. It is about 27 meters in height. The receptacle area of the river is approx. 6,475 sq km. The Lower Manair dam has 20 floodgates. And it’s a treat to the eyes to see water gushing out of the gates with it full force, and then becoming one by flowing into the neighboring water bodies. One has to visit this dam during the monsoon season when the water level reaches an optimum, so that they can get a glimpse of this amazing view. The peaceful waters of this dam and its surrounding areas offer a delicious treat to the eyes. Watching this place during sunset is a true bliss. As the golden sun casts its last rays the stretch of water, the whole area acquires a reddish-orange shade, which is a must see in life. The authorities have also introduced boating facilities and tourists can avail speedboats for an added experience. HOW TO REACH Lower Manair dam is accessible by road, at a distance of nearly 6 km from Karimnagar town.

It is constructed on Manair River, the lifeline of Karimnagar. It was functional since 1980s, The main natural source for the Dam is Mohathummedha Vaagu(culmination of many tanks around). Earlier it is mostly dependant on Sriram Sagar project through Kakatiya canal up till the construction of kaleshwaram lift irrigation project. Since the area recieves an average of 120cm of Rainfall yearly, this dam is the main source of Agriculture in surrounding. Nothing really happened in the last decade for its tourism development, recently Maniar riverfront project was installed to its work and expected to be completed in 2024. It carriers many memories for us locals as we cherish many things with it since childhood. It is the weekend getaway for the locals combined with two Parks nearby. One can receive it's warm welcome while arriving from Hyderabad to the city of Karimnagar through Algunur Bridge where you can see the Magnificent 20 Gates of the Dam. Boating facility is available since 2000s. If anyone really want to visit this place include the visit to Elgandhal fort, just 12kms away from here.

It's best spot in the Karimnagar to hangout with family or friends. We can enjoy the evening view from here. Boating also available there. We can sit on the benches and enjoy the river view and city view. During rainy season this place will be very crowded. Down from here two parks are there ujjawala and deer park.
